How to get (or replace) a library card.

To get a Library card, bring your valid Photo ID to the Library. If your current address is different than your ID address, bring in proof that you live in Vincennes. Bills, pay stubs and rental agreements are some forms of proof that will be accepted. Adult cards can be issued to residents 16 or older who have a Photo ID. For anyone under 16, a parent or guardian with a valid ID will need to accompany the youth. Replacement cards cost $2 (two dollars).

Get a PIN number to access your library account at home.

Call or visit the Library to get a PIN number. Staff will add the PIN number of your choice to your Library account. With this PIN number, you can access your account from the Library login portal or by using the MyLibrary! app.

How many books can I check out?

There is no limit to the number of books that can be checked out to a permanent Library account. For temporary accounts, three books can be checked out at a time.

How to check out books on CD/Play-A-Ways.

Like books, there is no limit to the number of audiobooks that can be checked out to a permanent Library card patron.

How to check out hotspots.

Hotspots can be checked out one week (seven days) per month. A $50 cash deposit is required to check out these devices. When the device is returned, patrons receive their deposit. Deposits can only be returned to the patron who checked out the device, therefore, Library staff may ask for ID. If devices are not returned on time, service will be suspended on the late device. The Library reserves the right to suspend hotspot checkouts if they are consistently returned late.

Using the copier and costs.

Copying costs ten cents a page. Library staff can assist as needed.

Using the fax machine.

FAXing is free. Library staff can assist as needed.

Where should I park?

The Library has multiple parking lots for visitors. There is parking next to the main Library between Seminary and Hart Streets. There are two auxiliary parking lots: the first is across Hart Street from the main Library. The second is located across Seminary Street from the main Library.

Where do I return books?

The Library has multiple book returns at the main Library. Next to the parking lot, books can be returned in the drive-by return. There is also a book return outside of the main Library doors and one just inside the doors.

How to check out DVDs.

For permanent accounts, six DVDs can be checked out at a time. DVDs are checked out for one full week (seven days).

How to donate books, DVDs, etc.

Request books by email, phone call or by visiting the Library in person. Patrons with a PIN number can log into their account and request items online. For items that are “available,” Library staff will pull that item from the stacks and get it ready for pickup. For items that are not in the library catalog, the collection management staff will either purchase the item or order through interlibrary loan, if that item is available from another source. When the item is ready for pickup, the patron will be notified by phone.

How to reserve rooms.

(main library sunroom; meeting house conference room; fortnightly)—The Library has multiple areas available for booking: Meeting House, Fortnightly Building, Main Library Sunroom, and McGrady-Brockman House. Meeting space can be reserved by filling out a request form.

Does the Library provide housing & food assistance?

Peer counseling may be available to help people find resources for housing and food assistance. If peer counseling is not available, Library staff can provide information about community agencies that provide assistance.

Where does the Library post announcements?

Facebook, Library spaces and the Library website are the means of posting announcements. The Library has bulletin boards available for non-profit agency notices.
